Cuba 1903 - EDIFIL 78 - 160x89 mm, Knife 81, unwatermarked stamped envelope.
A 2c carmine on amber Christopher Columbus stamped envelope, uprated with a 3c and a 5c stamps of the 1899 issue to pay for the 10c Certification fee and used by the well-known firm of Voigt & Rodriguez from Santa Cruz del Sur to New York. Indicium and stamps cancelled with a SANTA CRUZ DEL SUR, CUBA, Apr 27 1903 duplex cds - CERTIFICADO No. 90 - 27 APR. 1903 - SANTA CRUZ DEL SUR, Pto. Ppe. handstamp applied in purple on front. Backstamped in transit at Havana on May 1st and on arrival at New York on May 5th. There is a very light stain on the front of the envelope caused by "bleeding" from the wax seal material on the reverse. As it is always the case, this stain looks much darker on the scanned picture but it is almost invisible to the naked eye. Very nice and scarce usage from a scarcer town of origin.
