Cuba 1899 - (EDIFIL 65A) 1c green on buff stamped envelope.
1 cent green on buff, 171x95 mm, Knife 83, used stamped envelope with the Type B printed corner card of "Miro y Otero - Almacenistas Importadores de Viveres - Obrapia No. 27 - HABANA" This Type B corner card is the variety in which the font used for the word "HABANA" in the address line is the more ornate and larger font. Additionally, the vertical note at the lower left corner reads " Devuelvase si no se encuentra al interesado.", different from other impressions that always read "el interesado" This envelope was used in 1902, from Havana, via Tampa, to Villanueva y Geltrú, Puerto de Barcelona, Spain. Indicium cancelled with a lightly applied but complete strike of a HAVANA - CUBA - FEB 10 - 1 PM - 1902 duplex cds. It was used to send "Printed Matter" and according to regulations of the time for printed matter mailings, the backflap was not allowed to be sealed, so it could be opened by Postal Inspectors. EXTREMELY RARE KNIFE 83 ENVELOPE AND EXTREMELY RARE INTERNATIONAL "PRINTED MATTER" USAGE.
The 2012 EDIFIL catalogue price for a regularly used envelope is € 250.- (US $ 335.00). This rare Printed Matter, international usage of a 1 cent envelope to Spain is, in our opinion, much, much more scarce than a locally, regularly used envelope of the same issue and commands a premium over the catalogue price of a regularly used one. THE ONLY ONE WE HAVE EVER SEEN!
