Cuba 1899 - (EDIFIL 46Aip) 1 cent, green on buff, Miro y Otero envelope 1c green on buff, 171x95 mm, Knife 76, used stamped envelope with the Type B printed corner card of "Miro y Otero - Almacenistas Importadores de Viveres - Obrapia No. 27 - HABANA" This Type B printed corner card is the variety in which the font used for the word "HABANA" in the address line is the more ornate and larger font. This envelope was used in 1904, from Havana to Villanueva y Geltrú, Puerto de Barcelona, Spain. Indicium cancelled with a very good strike of a HAVANA - CUBA - MAY 10 - 10 AM - 1904 duplex cds. The envelope was used to send "Printed Matter" and according to regulations of the time for printed matter mailings, the backflap was not allowed to be sealed, so it could be opened by Postal Inspectors for a quick and easy inspection. EXTREMELY RARE ENVELOPE AND EXTREMELY RARE INTERNATIONAL "PRINTED MATTER" USAGE. The 2012 EDIFIL catalogue price for a regularly used envelope is € 100.- (US $ 135.00). Needless to say, this rare usage of a 1 cent envelope to Spain is, in our opinion, much, much more scarce than a locally used envelope. |
