SOLD SOLD SOLD SOLD - Cuba 1899 - Sc 226 - (EDIFIL US Admin. 28A) on MILITARY STA. 13 - CIENFUEGOS - CUBA cover. The 10c Daniel Webster stamp of 1899 surcharged for use in Cuba on a cover from Cienfuegos, Cuba to Mr. Laurence Sanborn, Winchester, Massachusetts, USA. Stamp cancelled with a very good strike of a MILITARY STA. No. 13 - APR. 2, (18)99 - CIENFUEGOS - CUBA - N.Y.P.O. duplex cds. According to information available, this Military Station was supposed to have been closed on February 17th, 1899, but this cover was postmarked almost two months after that. Backstamped on arrival with a WINCHESTER, MASS, RECD - 17 APR - 10 PM - 1899 cds. Cleanly opened at the left margin. The stamp was placed very close but not overlapping the upper and right margins of the envelope, therefore the stamp perforations are intact and not worn out as it is very often the case. This cover is a rarity on two different counts. The Sc 226, 10c stamp on cover is very rare and so is the Military Station No. 13 postmark. Together on the same cover they combine to create an extraordinarily rare item.
