Cuba 1937 - Sc 355 (EDIFIL 328) on AMBULANTE First Day cover - November 19th, 1937
The 1937 stamp issued to commemorate the 100th Anniversary of the introduction of the Railroad in Cuba on a First Day cover. Stamp cancelled with a perfect strike of a Habana-Bejucal AMBULANTE applied in black and commemorative cachet of "PRIMER CENTENARIO DEL FERROCARRIL EN CUBA - HABANA-BEJUCAL - NOVIEMBRE 19, 1937" applied in blue. The cover was returned to sender in Havana. There is a very unusual strike of what I would call, for lack of a better term, a "reason for returning to sender" handstamp applied to the back that lists many reasons for undeliverability (Fallecio, No hay ese numero, etc.) This handstamps is the only one of it's kind we have ever seen. The basic HABANA-BEJUCAL FDC is listed by EDIFIL and priced at € 70,- (US $ 91.00) - VERY SCARCE and very nice for these, that most of the times appear with very lightly applied, unreadable and incomplete cachets. |
