Cuba 1956 - Sc 562-63 (EDIFIL 678-79) - 1956 Christmas stamps. Stamps issued to celebrate the 1956 - 1957 Christmas holiday. These are unused, original gum, blocks of 4. Each block has one very small hinge remnant affecting two stamps. The 2012 EDIFIL does not price these as blocks of 4 but prices the indivicual stamps at 15,00 per never hinged set and 10.- for hinged set or 50,- (US $ 65.00) for the four sets as singles. Scott prices them at US $ 13.00 per set or US $ 52.00 for the four sets. Extremely fresh and no traces of tropical gum whatsoever.
By the way, the reason why these stamps are inscribed 1956 - NAVIDADES - 1957 is not that they were issued to be used on two consecutive Christmas holidays, but on the same Christmas holiday. This reflects the fact that Cuban kids used to get presents from Santa Claus in the morning of December 25th (of 1956 in this case) and from the Three Kings in the morning of January 6th (of 1957 in this case) so the Christmas celebration extended from December to January 6th of the next year. We kids were lucky back then!
