Cuba 1955 - Sc 547-648 (EDIFIL 637-38) - 1955 Christmas stamps. Stamps issued to celebrate the 1955 - 1956 Christmas holiday. These are unused, original gum, blocks of 4. Each block has been hinged three times and there are very small hinge remnants. The 2012 EDIFIL does not price these as blocks of 4 but prices the individual hinged stamps at € 11,00 per set or € 44,- (US $ 57.00) for the four sets as singles. Scott prices them at US $ 13.50 per set or US $ 54.00 for the four sets. Extremely fresh and no traces of tropical gum whatsoever. By the way, the reason why these stamps are inscribed 1955 - NAVIDADES - 1956 is not that they were issued to be used on two consecutive Christmas holidays, but on the same Christmas holiday. This reflects the fact that Cuban kids used to get presents from Santa Claus in the morning of December 25th (of 1955 in this case) and from the Three Kings in the morning of January 6th (of 1956 in this case) so the Christmas celebration extended from December to January 6th of the next year. We kids were lucky back then!
