Cuba 1961 - Scott 663-65, C212-15 - (EDIFIL 853-59) Underdeveloped Countries Conference, unused, original gum, never hinged set. I very well remember when this set was released in 1961 and at the time, I did not think much about them. It took me only 50 years to change my mind, but now I think these are one of the most beautiful stamps ever issued by the Communist Government. (Actually this set was released on January 10th, before Fidel Castro officially "came out of the closet" as being a Communist on April 17th, during the Bay of Pigs invasion.) The Suisse printing company, Courvoisier, did a wonderful job in the manufacturing of these stamps, that are always found with perfectly centered perforations, etc.
